Spend the extra dough for the Carbon Fiber. It is well worth it! I have the bamboo big stick too and the weight of the carbon fiber is significantly less and therefore significantly better. Yse your effort to move you forward instead of lifting a heavier stick. I use the stick for fitness on a local, relatively flat, paved trail and average approximately 70 miles a week with it for about the last 6 months. I can't think of another way to get an upper body / core / cardio workout outdoors on land. I mix it up and push with my feet a little too. Using the stick to go uphill isn't much good, but flat and downhill rock. When people see you use it for the first time they always have something to say. The teen skater I see always give an awkward look, but if they tried it, they'd love it.

I recently got the carbon fiber Big Stick and love it. The handle is beautiful and feels great. The shaft is super light and has a slight flex. It is great for alternating between pushing and paddling because it is so easy and light to carry. My only change was to add some bat tape (obtainable at a sporting goods store) to the shaft for better grip. (Posted on 4/13/12)

I have never land paddled before but I figured it would just be worth it to go ahead and get this one. When I first started out, I was going kind of slow and totally thought I just blew a lot of money. Once I started getting the hang of it I realized this is one of the best purchases I have ever made! The handle is beautiful and fits in your hand like a glove, and the carbon fiber pole is very sturdy and will probably last a lifetime. Worth every penny and probably even more, a MUST HAVE! I have an original stick, a bamboo, and I just got my carbon last month.

I would highly recommend the carbon if you're a serious rider. It's stiff compared to the others, which I see as an advantage because you can really jam on it and rocket (I use it for workout more than casual strolls.)

In my opinion the carved handle alone is worth the extra money... The carbon just puts it over the top.

I prefer my original or bamboo for casual strolls, but the carbon is ridiculous for hitting it hard. (Posted on 3/30/11)
