Drop Deck 43" - Black Wave (Natural)
- Product Review (submitted on December 20, 2012):
This is a very special board. The first thing you notice is how fantastic it looks in the Black Wave clear version. It looks so good with the clear orange wheels you almost just want to leave it on its hanger as wall art. But you can’t, as the second thing you notice is that there are pockets on the drop deck. The third thing you notice is that like all Kahuna Creations boards it is unidirectional which I think is great as I tighten my front and back trucks differently. The fourth thing you notice is that Chief Freewind like me is a goofy footer - you figure out how I know other than looking at the photos of him skating.
Chief Freewind must be a very knowledgeable skateboard designer as this board is really excellent. The deck design and layout is similar to but better than a Landyachtz Switchblade - which is considered to be the top drop deck board for 2012. This board works great with a Big Stick as your feet are low to the ground and the foot pockets hold your feet well. There is just the right amount of flex in the board for this 200lb’er. The pockets also make it easier to slide the board but the stock wheels are a bit soft and you need some speed (think downhill) to try to slide. The Bear Grizzly 852’s it comes with are probably the best cast trucks available. If you weigh as much as I do you may want to consider higher durometer bushings like Venoms if you’re going fast enough to slide. This board would make an awesome downhill board with some 40-degree trucks.
This truly is an outstanding board and in my view not only the best KC board but also probably one of the best boards available anywhere given the looks, the design and the price. It truly is a top board for 2013 and KC should sell a bunch. Buy it – you will not regret it.
